Does cork grip when sweaty / in hot yoga?

Yes. Cork contains suberin, a natural wax that becomes tackier with warmth and moisture. As your body heats up, traction increases—without sticky coatings or towel layers.

Will the design fade over time?

No. The artwork is laser-engraved into the cork’s grain—part of the mat, not a print on top. With practice it develops a gentle, lived-in patina, but the lines remain. Treat it like any natural material: avoid abrasive scrubbing, oils/lotions, and sharp edges.

Will the cork shed or crumble?

No under normal practice. Tiny specks (“cork freckles”) are natural and may appear at first use. Avoid practice with shoes, sharp objects, or heavy weights, and keep oils/lotions off the surface.

How do I clean it?

After class, wipe with a damp cloth and let air-dry flat out of direct sun. For a deeper refresh: mix water with a drop of mild soap (or 1:1 water & white vinegar), lightly mist, wipe, and dry. Roll cork side out for storage.

Is there a smell?

The cork surface has a neutral, woody scent. The natural rubber base may have a light rubber smell that fades within a few days—unroll and air it out between uses.

Is 4 mm good for my style?

4 mm balances cushioning and stability—great for Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and general practice. For extra knee comfort in long holds, fold the mat under your knees or add a small pad.
